Lots of Questions..
It seems to tick all the Campaign boxes that I've read about eg P Slots, Green Glass, Thin Door Pins, Spring loaded Petrol Cap, EW Vin, Front Fogs, Leather bound steering wheel, Steel Sunroof
Few Questions if you could help that would be really appreciated.
- The car was fitted/upgraded by TSR back in 1997 to a 1900cc Pk C I have loads of other facts and about the engine on a sheet Valve sizes/Camshaft etc.. but anyone know much about this engine in terms of performance?
- TSR also put a Sport Exhaust on it and it's too noisy for me.. any recommendations for a nice standard sounding exhaust ? is this likely to mess with the engine?
- TSR also fitted some rock hard suspension (or it has completely failed) any recommendations on what to get for a nice ride with decent handling?
- The car seems to have the worst turning circle in the world I'm guessing this is not normal… anyone know of an aftermarket rack they may have been fitted that would cause this or do I have a problem
- I'd like to get it looking as standard as possible and wondering if anyone can recommend some decent speakers to put in the VW provided spaces in the doors and next to parcel shelf
- A friend who also has just bought a Campaign says I should have an insert around my fuel filler anyone know what this is and if I can get one?
- Noticed my mates Campaign has a square hella badge in the middle of his fog lights are these originals as mine does not have these?
- TSR fitted a sports clutch looking at the receipt.. this was followed by many receipts for new clutch cables looking over the past 18 years and pressing the clutch is not for the weak (bloomin stiff) does this sound normal?
- I have 3 after market dials in my centre console (oil pressure, oil temp, engine temp) what should they have been from standard?
- I'm going to be doing a service on it, any recommendations for Oil/Filter, Air Filter, Plugs etc.. or wil GSF stuff be ok?
Think that's enough for now thanks in advance.

1. There may be some on here with old VW Magazine articles which could help, I will try and look also through mine.
2.
3.
4. the turning circle on mine is fine, I wonder if someone has put some steering lbump stops under the arches to cut down on rubbing if oversized wheels were one fitted?
5.
6. It's a vynil tape ring which goes around the filler neck, should find one easy enough from the traders on here wasn't a Campaign only feature though and some Campaigns like mine didn't come with the spring loaded filler cap either.
7. No Hella stickers were fitted as standard to the fog lamps, only to spot lamps.
8. My clutch is quite heavy, but the whole lot is 32yrs old!
9. the dials were a dealer option, all Campaigns have the 3 cut outs for hem but they are hidden behind a blanking plate.
10. guess this depends on mileage and how you are going to drive it, I stick regular EURO CarParts stuff in mine but use genuine VAG oil filter. Remember any oil today is loads better than 30 odd years ago.

My gauges are made by TIM so might have to invest in some VDO ones to be a bit more in keeping along with a nice Blaupunct Cassete deck Sounds like I need to PM the funkster any idea on the price of bilstein struts with eibach lowering springs? 35mm sound like a tasteful drop to me. Are there any decent adjustable coilover set ups out there worth considering?
Shame I'm not about this weekend for the annual gathering I also don't want to drive until I've replaced the cam belt as I can't find any record of this being done in the history since 1997. I'd of like to have gone along to check out exhausts as I'd like something standard like (in sound and appearance) without restricting the TSR modded engine too much.
Just got a 35% off voucher code from GSF time to spend some dosh.. Are the exhausts from GSF worth considering at all? Not fussed about shiny tips just standard really but don't want it to restrict the TSR mods too much.
I have a silver VW badge on the front should it be black? there seems to be a mix when I google image it. Just spoke to TSR and they said it would have had around 135bhp when the engine was done.. not bad.. bet it's nowhere near that now.
Thanks for the other responses I will be following them.

Great to see another Lhasa MK1
Looks very tidy 1. I've got a hybrid TSR engine in mine (fitted circa '96) , the pack C (ported/flowed with bigger exhaust values) when optimized should be in the region of 140bhp especially with a 1.9 bottom end.
2. If you go for a bog standard OEM exhaust you will loose possibly 5-10 bhp, but your ears will thank you. From experience all performance aftermarket exhaust systems are noisier than OEM. Quietest aftermarket performance one I have used in the past is Jetex.
3. Again most 'performance' aftermarket suspension will affect the car in this way. Half way house is to go for minimum reduction in height and from brands like Eibach, Boge/Sachs and Koni.
4. MK1's should have a great turning circle, after all they are small cars! Could be that the steering rack hasn't been aligned left/right correctly?
8. Finally Clutch – If you are comparing the MK1 clutch with a modern car that it's likely that the MK1 clutch is as expected!!
But I would expect TSR put in an uprated pressure plate, so may be slightly stiffer than OEM.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that fellow Lhasa owner. I've just ordered a back box (Bosal) from GSF whilst the 35% code was valid and only set me back £46 so that will do at least until I can hopefully get to witness other peeps exhaust and how they sound.Lhasa2008 said

Is THIS the correct bilstein/eibach set up to go for?
I spoke to TSR on Friday and they said it would have been around 135bhp when it was done and I noticed on the receipt it had a sports clutch fitted by them so I guess that might explain that…
Service parts ordered at weekend including Cam belt so hopefully be out and about in it soon and a trip to TSR to tune the engine which seems to be running really rich and has rubbish midrange power almost like massive turbo lag.

Re your question earlier about the VW badge colour - it should be Black.
Darn Beastie Boys fans must have had my black one I guess. Can you still get them or shall I get the chrome one powder coated.

That should work well. Bilstein are a good OEM make to go far.
