Pleased to announce the arrival of my Mk1

Ey up,

another newbie, from Hull, England.

Joined for a little help really. Hoping you guys will be able to help me with questions I'll have while restoring my Golf.

Recently fell on this VERY original Mk1 and couldn't let it go. Only thing I've done so far is clean it and Duck Oil the heck out of everything to help preserve it.

Still can't quite believe how lucky I was with this car, always wanted to own one!

Hopefully I'll have lots of updates and pictures for you all in the future.

Andy

Welcome to the Club Andy and don't be worried about asking any questions at this Club.
You've come to the best place on earth to ask about the Golf Mk1, there's more knowledge here than at VW!

HA!

I've was the workshop supervisor at Zcars until recently (long story)

I've been a mechanic for 15yrs, worked there for the last 5.

Apart from the knowledge I've built up from my years of tinkering, I also, fabricate, TIG and MIG weld, paint/body repair and am pretty competent with auto electrics. I repair and modify looms for transplants etc.

Obviously mechanics and electrics are my strongest "talents"

(duck oil and duck tape are all you need ;-) )

I had a quick look on the website; lots of very nice/interesting projects there. I remember looking at the mini kits in about 2008; I was thinking about making it fit my Mk1 track car. Looks like they do a lot more now than they did then.

Yeah to be fair,  the mini kit its a close fit for most small hatchbacks. One of the fab lads bought a mk1 driver shell we cut the back out of. He's planning on putting a big derv in the back. Made a good job of the front half of it so far!
