Removing crank pulley
The engine is separated from the gearbox as I need to change the clutch too.
How do i undo the 19mm bolt on the crank pulley if the gearbox end keeps rotating too? I've seen the pictures of the spanner and bolts from brokevw but I can't see how to attach it on mine as I haven't removed the flywheel.
I was thinking of reattaching the gearbox so the spline has resistance. How does everyone else do it?

1) use an impact gun on these. You'll need to clean out the heads so the tool fits deeply within the bolt, and make sure its a decent quality one too. I don't think you'll have much luck with an allen key etc!
2) Simply cut them off, eg with a grinder or Dremel, then replace with new. Once they have been cut and the pressure is off the bolts, removal is far easier, eg grip with mole grips or file 2 flat sides and use a spanner.
Once the bolts are undone, the pulley may well be still stuck. A pulley puller is invaluable for prising it off.

The pulley is only held on by the allen bolts you've undone, spray plenty od wd40 around the centre bolt and belt it with a rubber mallet or a dead blow hammer as not to damage the pulley.
Just been out to the garage and sprayed some WD40 over that centre bolt. I'll have another go at it tomorrow
