URGENT - How many campaigns left on the road in UK?

Hi Guys

Discovery are filming wheeler dealers trading up at mo and they need to know how many campaigns are left on the road in the UK approx

anyone know?

I would guestimate no more than about 600 (licenced, excluding SORN) probably a lot fewer.  If the campaign model was build in Aug/Sep '83 then they must be included in the 83 and 84 numbers.  I say probably fewer because not all the GTIs registered in 83 and 84 will be campaigns, but there is no easy way to find out which (that I know of).

They were asking us this on Sunday at Santa Pod before they started filming. I had it in my head it was in the 4-600 range but suggested they just say 'a few hundred.'

Someone should have the stats somewhere from the old site registers I guess?

There are conflicting views on how many we're built in the 1st place so it must be impossible to say how many now exist.

At a rough guess I'd say 1,000,000

If you go on ebay pretty much every series 2 gti is a campaign.

Around 1600 in UK according to howmanyleft. The Campaign was produced from April not August 1983.

The Campaign is the most common form of Mk1 hatchback.

I've got a silver one if you want to start a count.

I've always had it in my head that the run was 1000 models, based on that letter. 

There are -37 left. Very rare. You will never ever see one.

You may find that many are scattered all over the world now , i know of 2 in australia including mine ... Both arriving 2012

There's just no reliable way of tracking them (see post above). 

The letter from Dano is the best indication of what was built for the UK but that's it.
I was selling them and they were like chickens teeth to get hold of, I mentioned this in other posts.

In short. 
If a dealer wanted to order just one, they would be forced to take 1, 2 or even 3 other pieces of stock that were not selling well (not only Golf) and therefore hard to shift! 

It's a bit like the answer to "Life, the universe and everything? " 

Well that's the way I see it and let the market decide the value. 
One thing is for sure, the value of our cars, along with many others will not go down. 

Super cars, well we've all seen how they can seriously crash over the last 30 years! 

But we're not in it for the money, are we?
