Mk1 to mk3 cabby

As far as I'm aware vw never did a mk2 cabby, just wondering if anyone knows why?

So speculation is the cost of re-tooling, ….doesn't look that good either

As some of you know I was selling them back in the day and there were a lot of rumours flying around as you can imagine.
Especially just before and after the launch of the Mk2.

The ones that were being taken more seriously by many VW Dealers were as follows:
No plans for a Mk2 Cabby at this time (which was true as it turned out) and a version of some kind could be available in 3 to 5 years.
No mention of it being a Mk3 or 3.5.
Sales of the Mk1 Cabby will continue whilst demand continues to be strong. (we couldn't get enough of them)
It was also known at some point the car would have an option of PAS (from the Mk2) but this was in 1984/85 but we didn't know we'd have to wait until the 90's for it.
By about 87/88 there were clear messages coming out about the Mk1 Cabby to stop production by the early 90's.

Back to the Mk2 Cabby and had the built one in the day, it wouldn't have stood a cats in hells chance against the Mk1 in terms of Sales!

I have to say that Mk2 looks pretty cool. It's not as nice as my Mk1 but I would love to own it.
