Is this lowered

Need help, and fast!!

I'd appreciate some expect advise, basically, I'm trying to insure my golf, I'm 17, and it's modified, so as you can imagine, it's proving to be rather difficult!

It's only a 1.3, but its still daylight robbery! The cheapest I can get it is 2600, a lot I know, but that is with declaring all mods except the suspension, as soon as I say it's lowered it goes up to 3700 (which I'm not paying) my question is, is my car really lowered, il attach an image below.

I'm hoping I can get away with saying it isn't lowered as it really isn't by that much, and because it originally ran 13" wheels and now has 15" wheels, my argument is that it only looks lowered as the wheels are now closer the the arch?? Please help, do I tell them?! If I do declare it I may have to sell up :( C:\fakepath\image.jpg

That looks lowered-even on 15s vs 13s.
Couldn't you just un-lower it if it's a problem?

Are you on shocks and springs or coilovers? I'd have thought if you're on coilovers that would count as the same as being lowered either way to an insurance company, if you're running shocks and springs a set of standard springs would be a cheap and easy solution

Hope this helps and good luck!

looks to have a similar stance to my floppy top and I've lowered that with -40m springs.
Sorry mate, looks like you'll have to either bite the bullet and stump up the cash or revert back to standard height  - got to say though, it looks a cracker of a motor from the picture.

What other mods does the car have? i insured my driver at 19 for £1700 (3rd party F&T) whilst declaring non standard alloys and lowered. That was with Elephant on a 10 month policy so you can earn NCB quicker (i was previously a named driver on a different policy) Where are you getting quotes from?

Thanks for the reply, who am i kidding, im just trying to convince myself it isnt to avoid the cost! :(im running adjustable coilovers so i can just raise it back up, but im now thinking that even when raised to standard height, it still counts as suspension changes? so surely they wont be happy about that if i have an accident?

Thanks man, its not just the ride height tho, other factors are making it next to impossible to insure, may have to sell up! and ty!

Well im 17 (thats the killer) its lowered, alloys, air filter and exhaust is replaced! and im getting quotes from pretty much everywhere, hoping someone will give me a half decent price, may have to either sell up, or store it for a year and get a runaround clio or something! :(sad times!

put it back to standard mate, its better to be driving around in a standard mk1 than in a clio by miles!
You can pick up used standard suspension fairly cheaply or even go for refurbed stuff from mark carter and air filter and standard exhausts are easy to get hold of

Im going to raise it up to stock height and then insure it for the painful price £3000, (which i was surprised to learn is below average for guys my age  :o  ) i will pay it monthly until im 18 in December, then i will re evaluate and either sell up (if its proving to be too difficult to run) or try and get a better price! ty for the help guys

That's a rubbish price!! Try getting your parents on your policy and if that's still high the just be a named driver for a year or so, that's what I'm doing and it's fairly cheap on my modified mk1

Yea 100% agree here, whatever car your in, because you are a new driver its going to be ridiculously expensive either way, so you would be better off driving a standard golf than a naff corsa  ;)

Have you just done online quotes or spoken directly to some specialist insurers?
May be worth looking at how many miles your going to do and having a black box fitted to monitor your driving
Not very exciting I know but the sooner you get insurance in your own name the better

I am now an insured driver :DBoth parents are on, all mods declared, and not raised back up! the cost of raising the car was greater than the money id save on the insurance! so after speaking to nearly every insurance provider i could find, im paying monthly with GoGirl, with the painful grand total of £3200! :( but at least im on the road. look out the my build thread as updates will come soon! thanks to all that helped! :)no doubt il be needing more help v soon ahha!
