Windscreen Fitting & Prices

Post

Hi Guys!

I'm really struggling to find any sort of pricing for a windscreen to be fitted (not supplied), was just wondering if anyone has ever had this done & what kind of price I'm going to be paying?

A friend did suggest that I do this myself with a piece of string or something?..But I think I'll give that a miss O_o:lol:.

People aren't keen on fitting them as they often crack if not done properly.

It can be "DIY" fitted though. I have had all of my windows in and out a number of times all on my own (all of the fixed windows fit via the same method).
You don't even need the "piece of string" if you have, tough fingers.

With the seal fitted to the windscreen, if you sit the bottom of the screen in place on the seam and gently push it into place (it won't sit right at first), you can go inside the car and starting where the seam is seated correctly at the bottom, you can start working your way around the screen, peeling the rubber over the seam and into position. Keep popping back outside after a few inches and gently push the screen into place. After each small section, you will see the screen start to fit in nicely.

As soon as you make it up both sides and it is looking good, you can pretty much go all the way across the top, then pop out and apply some pressure to seat it properly.

It isn't the quickest way, but it is manageable on your own, without tools and no excessive pressure, so you are not likely to break it!

I've just had a new green tint screen supplied and fitted to the mk1 for £100.  To fit 6 windows to the bay camper has cost me £160, I'd gues at around £40 quid for fitting one window or so.  I used West Yorkshire windscreens they are really helpful.

AL_Mk1 Thanks for the advice, if I can't find someone to do it at a reasonable price I think I'll just bite the bullet & give it a try  :P .

duct-tape-FTW I will definitely look them up! Did they come out to you?

GTI_Jim That is so cheap! Do you mind me asking who is was that did that for you?

Yep, they came out within a couple of days and fitted it within an hour.

I've fitted one a while ago and you have to be quite forceful and imagine you're not hitting glass, I found slapping the screen as you work around the edge with  the palm of my hand was most effective but afterwards my palm did hurt!

hi the most it would cost is £60,if you are unlucky like me I had bought one from vw three years ago and stored it, got a windscreen firm to come out and fit it and they cracked my new genuine screen,so new ones are no longer available after market are,so the worst happens it will have to be used screen or non genuine part.I fitted back screen and quarter side glass which were really easy used the old rubber which I think makes it easy. Its only front screen which is probably the most difficult. If you get a glass fitter make sure you ask him what if he breaks it,are you covered for new glass.
