Since when did tyres get afflicted with the electronics over complication curse???

This weekend fitted winter wheel/tyres to Mrs Earlys bus and my daily Fester.

Half expected warning lights from Mrs's Mini, it being a BMW who are fixated with run flat tyres and designing cars without space for a spare wheel. The original summer wheels are also fitted with a weird looking metal valve. And lo, it came to pass it comes up with a warning that you can't disable. Sensors @£70 each….. She'll have to put up with a bingbong and amber light for the next 4 months.

However my Fester had normal looking valves and being a Ford thought it would have pressure monitored the cheap way using the ABS system and would be able to be disabled. No joy. Modern cars are getting to be more hassle than they are worth.

Wish VW would reintroduce a basic MK2 Golf IDI Diesel with NO electronics or extras except PAS. I would buy one.

tried to add image but nothing happens????

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

As with any new car it always seems to be a little sensor somewhere that causes allsorts of problems, they have all got to clever for there own good.
Glad I use my Mk1 Golf as a daily as no such problems . :thumbs:I'm borrowing my dads VW  T5 van as my car is having a MOT today and the glow plug light flashes on the dash when the brake light switch stops working! (new one on order)

"it always seems to be a little sensor somewhere that causes all sorts of problems"… Matthias Müller would probably agree with you.

Why is it that sensors are there to monitor possible issues but most of the time its the sensors themselves that are the issue?

No sensors - no issues! Simples!

TPMS was mandatory on all new cars since Sept '14. Blame EU regulations not the OEMs.

I can understand why they have done this as I've followed many a car with flat ish tyres, seen lots in carparks etc it seems people don't spend the couple of minutes checking pressure on the most important thing on there cars, there tyres!

So what happens if you change your wheels to aftermarket alloys do you still have to have the sensor?
