Newb question: Is the Cabrio engine the same as the GTi Engine?

Just curious: my 93 Cabriolet has the 1.8 8v mechanical injected engine. Is this the same as a Mk1 GTi?

The later cab engines are a little different but the block and head are the same

basically yes it is the same, your cab will have hydro tappets and not solid lifters plus fine threaded air shrouded fuel injectors not coarse thread non-shrouded as per mk1 tintop plus you'll have the cold throttle fuel injection system added on which the tintops dont have. oh and you'll have a water cooled oil cooler rather than the air cooled oil radiator. its closer to a mk2 kjet gti engine than tintop really

edit: this assumes you mean 1.8 tintop lump, if 1.6 tintop the injection system is basically same as 1.8 tintop but the pistons are different as is the head and cam
