New Car Issues

My New Golf GTI MK7 has major issues. It all started with the corning lights which are meant to come on when turning left or right. Car was with VW for a day however the computer was saying lights working but lights not been on, Dealer couldn't fix and needs the car for 2-3 days so a technician can check it (believe from Germany ).

The Issues now, the handbrake which is electric will not engage, it was auto when turning the engine off, I found out it had failed when the neighbour informed me the Golf was in the middle of the road. auto start and stop has failed, auto lights failed, parking sensors failed, cruise control failed and the list go's on.

I do believe my dealers service department will be getting a kick up the chuff tomorrow.
 

Tell them to take it back and you want a full refund, which you are entitled to depending on how NEW the car is?

Sounds like the main brain has failed with all those sensors going off!

As Mike says, if it's brand new then reject the car

The Golf will be 3 months old on 12th December. its a great car only issue up to last Friday was the corning lights.

Not good, should all be under warranty I guess.  Good luck tomorrow, let us know what happens.

3 months I guess you can't reject it just yet, but they have to sort it quick - and give you a courtesy car at the very least

Polite but firmly make it very clear to them that if they don't get this right first time, then there getting the car back and you will be expecting a full refund and a level of compensation!

Have both the Service Manager and the Sales Manager with you and state the following; "Not fit for the purpose for which it was designed."

Usually scares the paints off the Dealer!  

After Working in a main dealer I would say be firm but don't go in all guns blazing - you'll get more done for you and the staff will help,make sure you speak to the service manager or the brand maker at your local branch.

And don't brandish the law stuff straight out of the box as it just pisses the powers that be off and they don't help.

I've worked in dealerships since I left school and I now work as head of after sales for a small manufacturer in the uk and I can tell you if you had these issues but talk to me fairly I would do everything I could for you.


I know it's hard to keep cool especially when it's your cool new mk7 but I hope that your local Vw dealer deals with you fairly and honestly - just a word …. It might be worth ringing Vw assistance ??? They should come take the car away and provide you with a loan car ???

Oh and sorry , I wasn't trying to undermine Mike he has a very valid point and I know most people would react in that way and valid to do so but I just thought I'd give you the inside psychology to help you out.

Don't want to offend anyone as you're all a cracking bunch of guys.

I've spoke to the service department,car was taken into work shop and the computer/ecu was reset, most issues sorted. Handbrake working but only if I set it via the button,still no corning lights.

The Golf is booked in I've told them I don't want the everyday load cars which would be a UP or Polo 1.2 and was assured that it would one of the managers Golfs GTI or R.

I asked if I could have brick when leaving, the service manager said your going to smash one of the showroom windows are you.

I said no don't silly I need to it put under one of the wheels as brake just in case.  We both laughed, I get on well with the dealer and sure it will be sorted out either way.

       

Brilliant !!!! I love a good out come with the dealers. 

Everyone thinks we're rob dogs but it's only the big boys at the top make the real money it's real guys like us that make up the ground staff.

Update, over the cold snap we had the Golf decided to open the front windows in the middle of the night causing the inside to become a winter wonderland.

The Golf is back with the dealer this week, currently everything is working after the big freeze !! for Now anyway. I've also informed the Dealer that I'd like to reject the Golf due to the faults.

I would have a replacement Golf GTi as I can't fault it, I just think I've been unlucky with the one I've got.  

Sound like a Friday afternoon car to me.

It sounds like vw dealers are loads better than LR ones!

I've had experience of three separate LR dealers locally and to be honest their customer service was awful! No other way to put it  

I'm guessing duckworths are your local dealers ??? If your ever in Leeds just give me a shout,I'm at BMW now but I still get on well with the service manager in Leeds and wakefield so I can help you out round here 👍

I personally haven't had problems as I have mates who work at leeds so they look after me.

I'm a member of the range rover sport forum and loads on there have had major engine failure without and contribution from the dealer. 

The build quality just isn't there anymore, I have the 3.6 v8 twin turbo and love it tho…
