MK1 1.8T OWNERS - HELP NEEDED - LOUD KNOCKING THROUGH WHOLE CAR ON DECEL

Post

Guys I have a agu 1.8t mk1 with 5 speed box and getting a horrible almost a loose wheel bolt noise knock through whole car on deceleration ( coasting) whist in gear , doesnt seem to be as bad under power, doesnt seem to be as bad if you stick it in neutral and roll either.

Have just spent whole day looking at the obvious , wheel bolts, hub play , cv, anything fouling the chassis , driveshafts are tight , top mounts etc

Knocking  is speed related so at slow speed its a slow knocking and high speed faster knocking,

Coming from front end , had it up on ramp and jacked front up and ran it through the gears all the way up to 70mph but it only seems to be happening on the road

Anyone else had this ?  could it be a dodgy diff ?

Any help would be much appreciated

Dodgy engine mount causing the engine to tilt under deceleration and touch somewhere?

what box is it? if its a mk1/2 020 box then the 1.8t has probably killed it, this is to be expected. look for 02a/j and buy/make the brackets to fit plus seat abf/tdi cable conversion kit or a hydraulic pedal box
