Looks over handling

to lower or not!?!

Right guys, I have a blue gti cabby, currently on 15's but next year to ge on 14" bbs. I recently did an auto solo and got a wheel in the air which was an awesome feeling.
However, a week later I went to a vdub night and quickly realised my car was the only standard ride height in the car park.
Now my question is this.  Why? Knowing how well it handles stock, does lowering not ruin what was designed so well?  am I missing something or are the cars just being used for show and not being thrown around anymore? Can a golf still lift a wheel if it's lowered?
Cheers

My suspension was shot to pieces, x2 broken springs and both front shocks barely working so I stuck a set of -40mm Weitec lowering springs on with new standard sized shocks, whilst I now love the look of the car and the way it corners, the ride is a bit of a pig at times - very lumpy and you feel every bump, pot holes are a nightmare. I sometimes wish I'd never bothered and just replaced the old springs with standard sized ones.  But thats just a old fat blokes opinion, comfort over stance - a regular question posed !
I might change them back to standard one day, for now though I'm happy with the lowered look.

I guess you could still lift a wheel but it will be harder to do it.

If you're looking for 'go not show' then I'd start making sure all the standard kit is in good condition - i.e. bushes, ball joints etc.

My sportline had -35mm Weitec kit (springs/shocks) Eibach ARB's, lower strut brace and polybushes all round and it rode great. It handled really well but wasn't too harsh

wishbones level is optimal ride height, that being said as you say a stock gti will handle like its on rails i found my cabrio was excellent on stock gti springs (i assume anyway!) plus new shocks. it was so good i didnt want to risk touching it in case i made it worse

that being said my mk2 gti handled much better with a 40mm drop kit on it
