Fitting new sills, inner and outer arches

What to do first

Hey folks

About to get re started on my project, again!

I have new sills, inner and outer arches to fit.

With so many knowledgeable people on here who have done this, I was hoping for a bit of guidance.

What do I do first?

Fit and weld new sills before arches, therefore not cutting out too much metal at once? Or vice versa?

How do you guarantee the right profile when cutting out the arch to ensure a good fit of the new one, and where should the join ideally be?

I would appreciate any info you have, will help along way in my project.

Cheers

doesnt really matter, just remove as little old metal as possible and trim repair panel to suit.
the less of the arch removed the better, please dont just offer the panel up mark round it and cut. O_o

As above. Try to remove as little as the arch as possible. Just because you have a massive chunk of new arch metal in your hand its not wise to use it all unless you really have to.
As far as which bit to do first it depends how good a job you want verses time and skill level.

I would try and un spot weld the outer arch from the inner around the lip and leaving the original outer arch in place (or whats left of it) try and get the new inner arch fitting as best as you can but not welding it. Once your inner is fitting to a degree and you know where it sits you'll have a datum for your new outer arch to fit to so can start to remove the outer arch.
The sill needs to be done in amongst the arch work. It all comes together at once if you see what I mean,

. Its handy sometimes when doing arches to have an old wheel arch plastic spat from a gti to hand to give you an idea of how it is all fitting.
