Bilsteins for cabby

Post

I have seen a (new) set of bilstein shocks and springs on ebay listed for mk1 golf GTI, 1976-1983. Do these fit on a 1990 clipper, as don't want to go the coilover route.

I can't speak for that set on a Mk1.

However I have a set of BILSTEIN - B16 sport suspension and threaded ride height adjustable kit on my Golf Mk6 TSI, DSG Estate..

The previous owner had the kit fitted at an horrendous price.  :o

Now the car looks really good when it's lowered but at that setting when you go over a slightest bump it will knock your teeth out, even with all the extra comfort you get from the Highline model which is top of the range.
The kit is fully adjustable and he had it set up on medium and nowhere near race setup.

I've now set it to soft and it's much better but I still could soften it some more.

I hear so often Mk1 owners buying kits and after a while realise that it's just to darn hard and revert back to the original set as long as they haven't sold it yet!

By the way mine is standard but a mate off mine bought a Sportline with a kit on and as above it was way to hard and it took him a year to find a good standard set to put on but now he's well happy.  ;)

Thanks. Kit I am looking at is just a basic bilstein b4 kit for a gti with 15% increase in rebound, with standard springs so shouldn't be harsh. I'm not a fan of stupidly lowered cars and want to get the car looking as standard as possible. Someone at some point has lowered it before and I don't know yet if it was just a crude spring chop, but the ride is terrible, crashing over bumps and doesn't feel like it rides right.

The kit I am looking at comes with taper wire rear springs so just wondered if these fit a late model cabby or not. They aren't silly money so if they fit I will take a punt on them.

I wondered the same too when I saw the same kit. Want to keep ride height standard and maybe just a slightly stiffer ride quality from a top make shock. I also don't want them to be a lurid colour either! Nothing wrong with my current shocks just don't know how old they are and new ones would look nicer!

Compulsive buyer of knackered VWs!!!

I could be wrong but I have just cross referenced the part numbers on Europerformance web site and the tintop and cabby part numbers are the same for the front & rear corresponding shocks. It would probably be best to ask the supplier though before purchasing. I am keen to find out as fitted this kit recently to my tintop and would now like to fit to my cabby project.
