Air Box Fire....

Post

What would cause this?

Hello,

I have recently decided to move my 1.5 Golf onto my own drive, after being sat for a good 6 months at my parents,

it started fine, and I drove it no more than a quarter of mile. Just as I was about to pull onto my drive I noticed smoke bellowing from the top right of the bonnet..

once parked, I popped the lid to find the air box was on fire…

There only seems to be noticable fire damage to the box (as far as I can see)

I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to why this could have happened?

Any help would be much appriciated!

Thanks,

Rachael
