later fans will fit, mk2 etc. you may have to change the fan loom and thermoswitch to match though, take all the wirign off the donor. on the mk2 gofl note there is a 2 pin plug near the radiator, splcie this to your old fan red and brown wires then the mk2 fan loom will plug in :)

you may have to change the shroud too actually, not sure if the earlier shroud was same bolt pattern…

mk3 golfs around? they will need modification to fit though.

apart from that look around for fans that are available, they all work the same its just a case of get it mounted and adapt the wiring to run it.

on the VW loom if its a 1 speed its simple, red/black is live, brown is earth. if its a 2 speed (unlikely at that age I recon) then red/white is slow speed, red/black is fast, brown is earth

your fan is long since deleted, it has been replaced with 165959455T which is a 2 speed unit and you'll need to change the plug on it as well. if you do decide to buy it from the dealer (are there any?) then they will also need to order the plug and wire seals, it tells you in the parts ordering system which ones you need.  you'll either have to only wire up the fast speed, or get yourself a 3 pin thermoswitch from later vw and wire that into your radiator fan loom
